His family had been in the meat business for generations, instilling in him a profound respect for the animals that would one day grace his counter. We went there twice for lunch in the weekend, making it a daytrip. Take the local route and not the highway from Lucca. Have coffee half-way, be at twelve in Panzano, have lunch for several hours and on the way back do some winetasting at Montecalvi Winery, near Panzano. A local , very good Chianti winery. Mostly we end up with a few boxes of wine, for in our little wine cellar in our Village house 40 minutes form Lucca.

For lunch and dinner make a reservation upfront because the restaurant it is always busy and mostly fully booked. The lunch is a feast. Takes several hours, no hurry. Good meat, good wines and good ambiance. If you are lucky, Dario is there too in the small Macelleria near the restaurant. My wife is a vegetarian, and luckily there is also a very good vegetarian meal since a few years. So even when not eating meat you still can enjoy this experience.
